East Barnet School

 Students : Introduction

East Barnet School seeks to develop the leadership skills of all students, and looks for opportunities to develop these skills by training and other opportunities for students to take responsibility within the school.

There are three main ways in which this is achieved:

The Student Leadership Group

Following student and staff elections, Year 10 students are elected to the Student Leadership Team and are invited to stand as Head Girl/Boy and Deputy Head Girl/Boy. The responsibiliteis for the group are:

  • to be positive role models for all students;
  • to visit assigned Tutor Groups once per fortnight;
  • to attend and contribute to Open Evening;
  • to help organise school charity events;
  • to act as ambassadors for school events;
  • to assist with lunch duty once each week;
  • to help select monthly Jack Petchey Award winners.

The School Council

Every year students elect members of the School Council to act as their representatives. The School Council organise school events and are important representatives of the student body.

Peer Listeners

Since October 2004, students in Yrs. 9 and 10 have been trained in order to provide a support service for fellow students. Younger studentsd are encouraged to use these older students when they need to discuss issue and they need to recieve additional help and support.
